Following on the heels of its popular commemorative quarter series, the U.S. Mint will issue another specially produced coin, which will be created for a special business segment.
The Mint recently announced it will begin selling a one-ounce American Eagle Palladium coin to authorized purchasers. The coin joins the American Eagle Gold and the American Eagle Palladium Bullion Coins in their Authorized Purchasers series of coins.
Limited availability
The coin, which was expected to go on sale on September 25, will be made available to brokerage companies, banking institutions, coin and precious metal wholesalers and other participating financial institutions at a 6.25 percent premium over the predominant palladium price.
The coin will have a face value of $25 and will weigh one troy ounce of .0005 fine palladium. It will be minted in a quantity that the Secretary of the Treasury concludes meets its demand.
One side of the coin will display an adaptation of the "Winged Liberty" design by Adolph Weinman and familiar to most people as the image on the obverse side of the "Mercury dime." On the opposite side is an interpretation of Weinman's "Eagle" image used on the 1907 American Institute of Architects (AIA) gold medal.
The American Eagle Palladium coin represents the first time Weinman's design for the AIA will appear on a U.S. coin. In creating the design, the Mint used the original reverse plaster of the gold medal.
More designs on the way
The new coin is the latest in a series of redesigned pieces that have entered the marketplace, many of which could end up in circulation and require updated money counters. The "America the Beautiful" quarter redesign, which features national parks and other important national locations, has introduced 40 newly designed quarters into circulation, with 16 additional redesigned coins coming in the next four years.
These new designs require a technology that can keep up with the changes and provide accurate coin counting. A coin counting machine such as the Cummins Allison Money Machine 2 self-service coin counter offers fast, accurate coin counting that saves time and manpower. Affordably priced, this machine offers five coin collection options, from 36,000 coins to 140,000 coins. Financial institutions, grocery stores and gaming establishments could all benefit from having the Money Machine 2.
