The casino industry in Connecticut is about to take another step forward after the announcement of plans to build a $675 million facility that is privately financed - a move that will surely increase the need for accurate money counters.
The Connecticut Post reported that developers have announced plans to construct the MGM Bridgeport in the state's largest city. Its close proximity to New York City, as well as its coastal location, is expected to make it a drawing card for thousands of gamblers that reside in the area.
New Bridgeport casino
The MGM Bridgeport is the second casino proposed for the area. Earlier, the Mohegan Tribe and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation proposed a casino near the city of Hartford in the north.
While the MGM Bridgeport is eyeing an opening date in 2021, the competition for the new casino may force the state's legislature to re-start the casino approval process. The two tribes, both of which are federally recognized, have exclusive casino rights in the state.
Whichever casino is built first will be the first new casino in the state of Connecticut in 20 years. The state is currently home to the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket and the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville.
Quoting the 2017 Indian Gaming Industry Report, the HartfordBusiness.com said that Connecticut casino revenue totaled $1.73 billion in 2013, $1.62 billion in 2014 and $1.6 billion in 2015.
Proposed design
The proposed MCM Bridgeport will include a 10-story, 300-room hotel, retail space and a 900-foot boardwalk. The casino itself will include a 100,000 square foot area housing more than 160 table games and approximately 2,000 slot machines.
Developers say the proposed casino will create approximately 2,000 permanent jobs and another 5,779 related jobs due to construction and the impact on local business. It's anticipated that the casino will produce an annual tax revenue of more than $300 million.
The immense gaming area and the anticipated large number of gambling will require the use of high capacity, accurate cash counting machines that can handle the high volume. A ticket and cash counter such as the Cummins Allison JetScan MPX 8200, with its ability to sort 1,200 items per minute, can provide advanced cash counting technology.
